An untouched spill can usually be removed, we recommend blotting as much liquid up as possible with a white towel, flushing with club soda can also lessen stain until it can be treated for removal.
Yes rust stains can be usually be removed or greatly reduced in most carpets and upholstery. The exception is wool products the rust marks are 99% permanent.
